A Black and White World

Nopes I’m not starting a debate on the various Rights and Wrongs. Just found a long lost bunch of pics I had sketched and remembered a skill that I had conveniently ignored for my sheer laziness.
I love colours. They are vibrant, they depict many moods, they have a cheerful appearance about them that’s something which is irreplaceable by mere sketches but the charm exuded by the pencil sketches is one of their own. It takes an understanding of light and reflections to make a good sketch…….too much technical views involved I’m afraid. But the end result is anything but technical, black and white pencil sketches gives a nostalgic feel to the subject, an old world beauty that ensures a trip down memory lane.

Humans are the best subjects that anyone can find. They varied expressions on faces are a thrill to capture……the meaningless smile of an infant( which evokes quite a no of sho shweets, sho cutes), the wide eyed innocence of a toddler, the impish mischief in a schoolboy, the harmless trickiness in a schoolgirl, the giggling teens, the hardworking labourers, the gypsy selling chudis, the pensive executive, the stern teacher, the mild elders, the blushing lovers, the confused student(I fall in this category but I’ve never attemted a self portrait) the rushing office goers the serene lady at the bus stop,,each have a different expression. In a way they even reflect the conflicting , contrasting thoughts goingin the human mind. These thoughts later on take shape with the strokes of a lead pencil. A harsh stroke showing anger, a soft one for a smile, a simple shade the shadows take,a smudge the delicate features define. No wonder,,,, portraits are the hardest to draw but easily the most cherishable.
Sometimes I feel no emotion
Sometimes no colour defines
Sometimes the light fades
Sometimes the darkness settles
Sometimes the lead tip beholds
A Black and White world.
