What I have learnt from the series

Series and me go a long way back. Back in time when Doordarshan gave Chandrakanta to current era where pining for the next episode of Game of Thrones is my regular hobby. Honestly, I think I have lost the count of the series that had me hooked at some point or other. But one certain thing is; TV series do impart valuable life lessons. So heres a compilation of stuff that I learnt from the series I am currently watching.

Brainy indeed is the new sexy. We all need a Dr Watson to watch our back. There is a place called Mind Palace. It is freaking easy to get SHERLOCKED even if you are watching it for 8th time.Bitterness is paralytic & love is anyday a much more vicious motivator.

We all have a dark passenger in the deeper recess of our selves. If you are the monster, be a neat monster. Be wary of sisters, they sooner or later always find out what you been upto. There IS a job called blood splatter expert. Almost every serial killer lives in Miami or atleast pays a visit to Miami.
Always be careful of who & what you say especially when you dont know your friends from enemies. Shorties can also be hotties. If you don't have the brawn sharpen your brains.Weddings are not always happy affairs. Wolves are great pets & dragons are great babies. Not every blue eyed thing is wonderful. Valar Morghulis. Winter is perpetually coming & Jon Snow knows nothing.

All is fair in the game of power, even being a ruthless douchebag. Friends do make the worst enemies and we are definitely nothing more than what we choose to reveal. So be wise in the dealings if you want to reach the top.

Doing drugs is bad..period

Not everything illegal is bad. Never take no for an answer. Wear good suits & find the loophole, there always is one. Pick that jaw from the floor & admire Jessica.

Evolution may cause more differences that existing ones. So if you have evolved into something better keep it to yourself & do some good with it. Time space theory is atleast conceptually possible so we do have a shot of turning back time.

Never ever trust anything that is ravenously hungry. A whack to the head helps when zombified. Especially if you blow the brains out. Either hunt or be hunted...no third way. There is gonna be a party when the wolf comes home.(Winks...)

Salt helps with all sorts of demons. No wonder they are taken with tequila. We mortals also need it for some serious inner demons fighting. Angels are not always nice. Some are real jerks. Whenever there are 2 brothers, one is exceptionally hotter than other (read Dean).

The brother theory again (read Damon here). If you are not human then you never really die; you pass to the other side where you see your idiotic family making fools of themselves, but hey you get fashionable clothes. You have only one epic love but there is always something better than that epic love.
P.S  I am sired to Klaus. Who wouldnt I mean with that accent & that adorable blush.

Sketchy Affair

My love for sketching has always been like the high school boyfriend. We might be dating different peiople now but always there for each other. I might be dabbling in 5 different areas but it has always been at the back of my mind, like a comforting feeling. Like something I can always turn to when things get messy. Not necessarily to get back together but just as a solid shoulder to rest. Few sketches, old ones, randomly done.

The shy one
Surprised....I never thought

Maybe it should've been the kiss in the rain

Tired

The best thing about a smoke is , it never lets you die alone

My Version of Tiny Tales

Anybody heard of Terribly Tiny Tales? They are this facebook group I'm a huge fan of. Their funda is to choose a word and write a whole tale around it. Conditions applied...tales can not be more than the size of a tweet (140 characters). Now inspired by this site, I've created some Tiny Tales of my own.

1) Word = Cheat
"You cheated on me with her, how could you?" screamed the weighing machine to diet plan as chocolate stood silent.

2) Word = Dreamcatcher
"Brought you a goodbye gift", she said "A dreamcatcher to shoo away your nightmares" didn’t say the goodbye to him was her worst nightmare.

Memory Musings

Memories can be funny things. An elaborate set up is not needed to travel to the past. A similar name, a random hummed song, a familiar path, a remembered smell can cause a rush of feelings. Repressed stories buried in some corner of the heart are awakened with a jolt. A little ache gnaws the insides as heartstrings are pulled, heartbeats are risen, laughs are heard and secrets are whispered. Each asking for a little more time, a little more attention. Everytime they are played & replayed. The version of how it was & a tiny maybe of how it should have been. They are deliberately put to rest most of times, but ever so gently they are relived with a faint smile or a deep scar

I See Summer

I remember a little purple room
I see a little ray of sunlight streaming like a ribbon through the blurry panes of the old wooden window
I see a sequinned curtain catching the light, throwing billion little rainbows on the wall by its side
I hear the distant sound of a koel cooing post her afternoon nap
I see a lavender wall plastered with old photographs, unmindful sketches, random written phrases & dotted with Harry Potter cut-outs
I see a curved terrace, a myriad of chunris, tied to a cane swing, peacefully billowing in the wind
I hear Euphoria singing Maeri
I feel the warm noon breeze tugging at the hems of my pop green skirt
I hear the girly giggles & laughter of friends tumbling over each other as we play a pillow fight
I feel their hugs and hear their stories as the conversation deepens over mugs of drinking chocolate
I smell musty books as I lean closer to the wooden shelf, I smell the sharp spirit as my toenails are painted red
I smell fresh baked nankatais & shot buns as the neighbourhood bakery opens
I smell sweet tea laced with ginger & cardamom
I hear shrieks & shouts of neighbourhood boys calling for a game of gully cricket
I see my crush clutching his bat, getting ready for a spin ball, I get nudges from my girls as he hits it square
I see a 15 yr old me on a pink cycle – daddy’s birthday gift. I feel sweat, tired from a ride
I see twilight
I see a summer from the memory book, clumsy & innocent just the way I remember

Meant to Be

Maybe we will meet again someday, years later, 10, 15, 20. I won't know you then nor will you recognize me. I'll find you older, you'll find me wiser but beautiful as ever. We will frequent a nearby coffee shop. Giggle like teens while sipping our latte. Look deep into each other's eyes while we talk. We'll walk under falling winter leaves, holding each other. We'll write our names on sand and watch as the waves carry them to the farthest end of ocean. We will sketch our dreams on the new fog settled on the window pane. We will watch the storm rage outside while our bodies find peace wrapped around. We will search for constellations under a starry sky and find shapes in clouds. We will take long rides to paths unknown and get back rich with new tales to tell. We'll reveal our deepest fears and darkest secrets bringing out the worst in us. We'll soothe our insecurities together and make way for love as never before. Then one day you will tell me what you never told the brown eyed girl you loved and lost and I'll tell you what I never told the cheeky smiled boy I always knew was mine. And that day once best friends will fall in love not knowing they were always meant to.

The Line

A girl sleeps on my bed; a stranger with my face. I knew her once but now not sure.
She says she is me, I know she is not.
She meets me at places she is never meant to be, awake with people she never meant to see
Traces of blood beneath her nails, drawn everytime she claws her self
Thriving on destruction, most often her own, calling out my name she says“Don’t hate yourself, you never saw the line you crossed”

Come Home

I miss the winding roads where I rode, do they miss me ? I know not.
They always had people like me. They always loved people like me. We are so similar. Our journey knows no end.
Someday when the desire to comply wanes, I might go back there. Once more feel the wind &  rain and in all sense come home.

I am

I am not an angel with a halo overhead
I am not a devil awaiting a tread
I am not love, just a source
And I am not hate, just its cause
I am not a sin, nor virtue, nor salvation
I know not about truth, nor lies
I am not the air that life sustains
Neither do I quench thirst like the rain
I am just a mirage, an illusion, a dream
Search & I’ll be found in every realm.

Fictional Crush Alert

“Oh I simply love Sherlock”. I gushed with blushing cheeks and the excitement of a 14 yr old revealing her first crush, “I Already got 2 Sherlock tees, a hoodie , 2 Sherlock bag badges, 2 Sherlock keychains & God only knows how many wall papers & pictures”
The recipient of my overwhelming confession looked at me like I was some green skinned alien. “Fictional Crush ” she stated & nodded her head gravely. My bestie knew too well about  my crush list, only glitch being they were all Fictional.

So as an avid fan of adventure books my first fictional crush was a natural impulse. Heyyyy......you cannot introduce a girl the Hardy Boys series & blame her for falling for Frank Hardy. Gentlemen trust me; we geeky girls always fall for the silent, sensible guys, looks & charms notwithstanding. And behold the 6 feet 1 inch black haired elder brother managed to ride into my imagination as the thinking man with utter ease. Needless to say I have half the series covered in my book shelf, right from the Hardy Boys mystery series to their case files.

But first crushes are always fickle and I was to realize this soon. Blame it on the age when rebellious tendencies surpass every other sense, or call it the craving for superheroism but this time I was more ambitious with my affections. Mortal men were so passé, we needed something more. Enter the mutants with X Men. I honestly confess my sole interest in genetics was sparked just because of this one cartoon series when Gambit ruled my better judgement for most time. With that attitude, the audacity, not to mention the quintessential bad boy aura....Gambit rocked big time. For almost a year I was glued to TV religiously following X Men till they stopped airing it thus ending the second spell of love in my life.
P.S. Wolverine never was appealing the comic series with his yellow costume; it was only after Hugh Jackman that Wolverine turned droolworthy

This wasnt the end but....soon I was to meet the boy who gave me sleepless nights. Obsession to the extent of muttering & smiling in sleep. I swore eternal, never ending love to this one guy on God knows how many ocassions. No conversation was fun if it didnt involve him & nothing looked good without his round specs....that was the perfect boy .The boy who lived. Harry Potter my entire high school I dedicated to you. I managed to alter my tomboyish ways all thanks to you. I managed an entire wall of your pics,a full scrap book dedicated to you, not to mention I even had a bday cake ordered for you. No prizes for guessing who the proud owner of the entire series is. Sighhhh.....why werent you real?

But wishes were wild horses. Soon school boy’s innocence was replaced with the sheer intrigue of the old world & folks who ruled it. Out of the blue came Lord of the Rings & with it came 2 men - dizzyingly divine & irresistible as sin. King Aragorn & Legolas. Trust me till date I haven’t been able to quite figure out whom I loved the most. If Aragorn had the stoic superiority of the person who knows he can never be wrong then Legolas has the raw impulse of the man who would take the right action irrespective of the consequences. Guess I was caught between two loyalities, one to the King of Men & another to the Prince of Elves. And you really can’t help getting bowled over again when they are played by the Viggo Mortensen & Orlando Bloom in the movies....sighs are in order

But with age comes the mellowness, there is always a time when you actually think the bravado is always not worth it and all you desire is the intelligent man with whom you can have a brilliant conversation over a mug of hot coffee. What could be better if the same man has a penchant for most interesting symbolisms known to mankind & a terrible affinity to danger? I could never thank Dan Brown enough for bringing Robert Langdon into my life and making me realize the truth of the phase “Knowledge is Virtue” indeed..... indeed.....the fact that Tom Hanks plays him the movies only adds to immense luuvvve

And finally my current obsession SHERLOCK :-* Although this time it’s more the handiwork of the brilliant Benedict Cumberbatch. Words are trivial when it comes to you Sherlock. Like Above & Beyond sings I’ll never get over you. You’ll never get over me (I doubt the latter, but what the heck a girl can dream.........)

F. R. I. E. N. D. S

FRIENDS  has been an integral part of my growing up years. It has been more than just a series, it portrayed a life an entire generation could relate to, and the characters were more than just screen images. They were people we meet in everyday life or for that matter every time we look into the mirror. Daily incidents shown were so trivial yet so poignant. Issues depicted were neither major cause of concern yet concerned with the survival of ordinary youngsters.  FRIENDS was probably the only series that tugged all the right strings, connected oh so deeply & had its heart in the right place. For people like me who literally stuck to FRIENDS, it reminded us of our own lives with all its highs & lows, ups & downs, rights & wrongs & it reminded us of all the people who stick by us irrespective of how pathetic or awesome we were , people we love & people who love us back.

Maybe the highest point of FRIENDS was its simplicity. The unabashed innocence that flowed through the scripts. The phases were the integrity of characters was not compromised in an attempt to appear supposedly cool & callous. The times they were so awesome we almost wished they were real. The times they were so silly that we laughed our ribs out and the times when they appeared so vulnerable and pathetic that our heart went out to them.

At some point or other we all wanted to just hug Rachel & tell her that all will ok. We wanted to smack Chandler for being a sarcastic jerk, to shake Ross and tell him to be real and shake head at Pheobe. We wished to tell Monica to loosen up and ask Joey – How u Doing?
Every episode in its own way caused a sigh, a half falling tear, a smile or rib tickling laughter and no matter how many remashes come up , nothing can ever match up with F.R.I.E.N.D.S

MUAH ........thank you FRIENDS for making my life happier J

I’ll be there for youuuuuu, coz ur there for me toooooo

Vanity Fare

This post is a part of one long stretched thought process, consideration of too many practical aspects stalled it being put up but then again practicality was never really my primary reflex action. Although the truth was very much in face, it was ignored but not so comfortable doing it anymore.

We girls swear by a whole lot of cosmetics that keeps us perfect from dawn to dusk. Trust me I can’t live without my kajal for a day even if you paid me your weight in gold to do so. Likewise I have a friend who clings to her lip gloss as if her life depended on it, another who lands up every alternate day with a new shade of nail polish on her brilliantly manicured nails, one who trusts only a certain shampoo brand because it smoothens her hair perfectly, one who prefers a certain facial cream which covers up her skin imperfections; the list goes on & on & on & on……....sorry to burst your bubble folks but what if we are told about the dark murky side of this Oh So Glamorous picks we have made.

What if we were shown the side of cosmetic industry that dwells in scientific labs and the animals that bear the brunt of our pretty faces? Will we be still happy looking at ourselves in the mirror knowing that the kohl that lines our eyes was result of 100s of rabbits going blind? The conditioner that smoothens our hair has burnt the skin & fur off a baby squirrel. A cat has got its flesh stripped till ribs in order to facilitate the exact acid content of our astringent. Did our vanity & beauty come with such a ghastly cost? Maybe we might turn a blind eye stating the so called “practical” aspects but does practicality really mean losing humanity?

It is true we will not be able to eradicate animal testing, it has etched itself in our daily lives. But we can at least make an effort.
How can you and I help to ensure we are not a part of this bloody ritual? Well for starters do our research. The internet is flooded with the truth behind animal experiments in cosmetic industry. It showcases graphic images of how our furry friends are treated and also details of companies who follow these barbaric methods. Boycotting the cosmetics made from these organizations will be a good way to start.
Go for natural ways to polish, nourish & shine your skin and hair.
As far as makeup is concerned, go bare face :)……….. now that really isn’t a coveted option so research more. There exist companies with compassion, who opt for ways of testing with laboratory generated skin cells and human body simulated conditions. A  rabbit logo that looks like this symbolizes animal friendly products .Try using them. The choices maybe limited but it will be worth it.
Heaven knows with what angst I dumped my cosmetic paints and settled for bare minimums, but I love my face more now and most certainly hope bit by bit if we all try maybe someday in the future we will live in a world that does not believe in sacrificing lives for something as trivial as darker mascara.

Warning: No animals were hurt in the process of writing this blog except my roommate who had to bear my constant blabbering.

Girlfriends

Growing up, I hated girls, I hated being one too. I just didn’t understand the fun in dressing up dolls. Usually I thought guys were better friends than girls.

But now that I have reached the stage where I actually dole out advice to my kid sister (what she does with it, I don’t know) I no longer feel the same.

Having a girlfriend is soothing coz she knows you, can empathize with you as she herself has survived your battles. As a teen she understood perfectly well when you revealed your first crush, you tried out new remedies to solve your pimple woes, you lamented when you couldn’t get the stupid mathematics right, you tried to figure out the first adult joke you heard & weren’t sure it meant what you thought it did, you couldn’t decide what you wanted to be when you supposedly grew up.

And now when you have finally grown up, she is still the first one to pull out the highest heels when you want to go dancing, she still wrestles you with the pillows and waits patiently with you till you find your perfect dress, that is when she is not searching other stuff and egging you to try it on. She bails you out when you are literally broke and cheers you up when your heart broken.

You can crib all you want about how crappy your job is, what a jerk your guy is, how difficult your family is, how overloaded your weight is or plain how bad the world is and she’ll comfort you the same without being moralistic or judgmental about you. She will join you for all your disastrous ventures irrespective of the consequences, be it something as plain as painting 10 nails in 10 colors or as overwhelming as bungee jumping…. in the same way she once joined you in sneaking the tiny cigarette and ended up puffing and coughing.

She will tell you plainly when you act like a bitch, watch your back when you are too busy to do it on your own and won’t even mind kicking your ass when you lose your head as she loves you for being you and not restricted by rules and she firmly believes it’s her right to expect the same of you.

And then when you sit reminiscing your days, she will hug you hard because heaven knows she can’t do without you either.

The Girl In The Mirror

Girl in the Mirror she looks so like me
Too much to be true
With deep black eyes and kohl rimmed lines
Wispy curls and toasted smile
She gives me a wink as soon as I’m up
Smiles at me as I rush through my day
Blows me a kiss as I walk out the door
Gives me a hug as I walk in again
Laughs with me in hrs of mirth
Jumps with me as I dance in the rain
Cries with me as I vent out my pain
Shares my coffee on a sunny morn
Gazes with me at a star filled sky
Tells me dreams are easy if I try
Together on a long path we came, together a path more to care.
Girl in the Mirror u’ve always been there
In ups n downs and hope n despair
U look so like me,, so raw so true
Coz U are me and I’m U.

I Love Her, Yet I See Her Die Everyday

Mumbai has been more than city. She is more human than any of her inhabitants. She is more virtuous than any saint. More womanly than any woman & stronger than any of her counterparts across the globe.
She has identity for herself, an identity which is an amalgamation of childish innocence, serene calmness, spunky sexiness, brazen boldness , head held high confidence, troubled soul sadness, intense passion, gentle love, tender care with a hint of street smartness.
But my unflinching, selfless lady still lives & dies at mercy of vicious wolves pawing her from all sides. She lies in slums slathered with layers of sickness & filth. She chokes in clouds of poisonous clouds that burns her green. She lies rotting within heaps of garbage piled on her rivers and ponds. She lies bleeding in every blast and they pass her by without a second glance. Everyday a new wound opens in her body, her every feature lay twisted & the necrophile feasts on her.
She is ruthlessly provoked, tortured, lynched & slaughtered & left to die every single day.
STILL SHE BREATHES, STILL SHE NEVER SLEEPS

Snow White Must Die

Kohl Rimmed Eyes
Blushed Up Cheeks
Cascading Locks
Shimmer Red Lips
A Perfect Smile
A Glance Too Close
Burnt Charred Eyes
Bruised Cheeks
Scattered Locks
Bleeding Lips
Twisted Smile
Snow White Must Die, She Is No Longer Fair
The Poisoned Apples Burnt Her Core, Her Dwarfs Don’t Care
The Wicked Stepmom Snatched Her Soul
Mirror Mirror on the Wall
When it’s Over Give Me a Call

Thoughts, Thoughts and more Thoughts

I hate cliched thoughts that seems to be have made for the sole reason of making the reader puke (esp if you happen to be someone like me who has somewhat sarcastic view of life) but despite that some unique ones exist that seems to arrest attention. Guess they are fun read.

As we evolve we believe life will exempt us our struggles, "You forget" says the devil with a chuckle "I evolve too"

Sense of humour is just common sense dancing

The trouble with men is that they lack the power of conversation but not speech

Comedy is a sarcastic realization of inescapable tragedy

At times I lay awake at night wondering where I went wrong, then a voice inside me says " This is Gonna Take More Than A Night"

I'm sick of following my dreams, I'll just ask them where they are and hook up with them later.

Dance is like eroticism, one thing leads to another.

Anticipation without anxiety and underneath the feeling "I belong to me, just as I am right now".

When you look at the abyss, the abyss looks at you.

The Color of Love is Red

Happy Valentine’s Day” the shrieks filled the air as she looked upon the young squealing couple; now shaking Red confetti off each other’s hair. The entire coffee house was in a myriad of different hues of Red. Undoubtedly Red was the color of Love.
‘Love’ she thought and couldn’t hide the smirk that escaped her crimson lips. What do they know of this emotion? The obsession? The intensity and darkness? It can kill & die together.
She closed her eyes and the room was still dark, the rocking chair creaked ominously in the corner unaware of the inhabitants. The lone candle casting dark long shadows blinked, threatening to go off anytime. He had insisted in bringing her to this god forsaken place, he had said it was serene, away from the mad bustling world. Had he forgotten to mention it was dark, closed, claustrophobic and dreary? The smell of dust mingled with the musty smell of old wood n cobwebs seem to enter and ravage her mind but it was the metallic smell of blood that was numbing her senses. She glanced up to see her face reflected out …….hundreds, expressionless on the mirror or what remained of the mirror that once graced the wall. And there he was at the foot of the mirror.
Damn wasn’t he adorable, the way he smiled his dimpled smile, the way his intense eyes lit up when he spoke to her, the honesty in them when  he said  he loved her. She could live through thousand perils of hell and not utter a single cry if it was for him. She lived n breathed just for him, until, until he said they were other people with whom he shared his life and they too held a place and he could not always be with her. He said she was a part (though an important one) she was just a part of his life.
‘INCAPABLE’ she had termed him. Incapable of loving her,  just her. Why was it so hard for him to do that when she did it every day? When she had molded herself into everything he wanted….. She loved him to death and only death could do them apart.
He wanted to go, he had to die………….
Her eyes fluttered open as the waiter brought her the coffee mug. Tears flowed through her eyes as she saw the mug. It was red and just like her hands stained with blood.
The color of her love was RED.

One of my "Attempts" at writing something that comes close to horror. Please after reading this do not come back at me saying I need help n stuff.  I'm one of the most happy believers of LOVE in this planet. This is just a dark expression of the most frequently felt emotion.

Nights out of Scary Movie

Ever seen a scary movie??? These are typical firang flicks with lots of blood, gore n hackneyed steamy scenes.Generally these movies have same plot
“Girl alone in a new place, staying in a huge house, meeting the guy of her dreams blah blah blah n then trouble starts.Either it’s a stalker or a serial killer butchering ppl or a ghost without an agenda or if creativity permits vampires or werewolves J

Interestingly I happened to live a part of such a scary movie a couple o weeks ago.Well almost,,,,if we do away with stalkers and the dream guy (well I gave up on those species long ago)but the solo gal new place staying alone thingy,,,,yea lets talk about that

It started with my transfer to Pune and the company providing me a quarters to stay but alas some goof up in the admin department saw me without a roof overhead within a week,,,finally after numerous phone calls, loads of stern talks and giving them a dose of company facilities I was promised in short making life hell for the guys who did me out I finally got myself a new place to stay and as per company rules free of cost.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PLACE

Somewhere on the deserted backlanes of military cantonment of Khadki in a highrise which had definitely seen reasonable human inhabitation in some good old days where the ric drivers charge u 180 bucks coz they don’t get passengers on return trips and en route just where this lane begins you can feast your eyes on “desi daru ka adda” and even see wierdos walking on d roads muttering to themselves
This was my paradise where I stayed for 2 weeks, alone, with visions of every dumb movie that I’ve seen flashing through my mind as I desperately tried to make myself comfy promising my self that no matter what I’m not going to investigate a weird noise at night coz they usually mean trouble.

But must admit it was a bloodrush. Not exactly an adventure but yea almost………………….

What He Will Never Say

He’ll ogle at you everytime you are in his range of vision as if his life depended on it but will not acknowledge your presence till you land up right in front of him, he’ll msg you 50 times a day but not a single one will be of any relevance to the next or previous one, he’ll keep dropping hints as to how a certain movie is supposedly the best that is ever made but he has no company to watch it during the weekend, he’ll say plenty of made up stories about the dreams he had of you and since he keeps seeing them again and again they must hold some karmic value, he’ll say you needn’t diet anymore coz you look perfect the way you are, he’ll say how pretty your hair is, how lovely your dress is , how chilly the weather is, how crappy the work is, how Baa Baa black sheep had to do away with his wool, how man went to moon and every random nonsense in the world.

But “He’ll Never  Say What He Really Has to Say”
